About Finding Felicity

So, who am I and what is this place all about?

I remember being on holiday in France when I was about 7 years old.  A waiter was asking our names and when I told him mine he exclaimed, “Ah, Felicity!  Happiness!”  That was the first time I was aware that my name really meant something.

So you’ve found me but I don’t think that’s necessarily what you were looking for.  So what can I do for you?  We live in a world which seemingly has never ending negativity.  There are a lot of upsetting things both out in the world and within our own lives and I often feel I need more balance of positive and negative.  And I wanted to create a space of happy things.

And balance is key.  I don’t want this to be a place of relentless positivity.  (I hope I’m not that annoying).  I don’t believe in covering sadness or anger or grief with a blanket of happiness.  I have bad days and good days.  I just felt I’d like a place to go when I want to feel better – on both the good days and the bad days.

This blog site is just one facet of my Finding Felicity project.  My blogs will be philosophical musings on happiness, sadness and mental health.  About society and how we find our place in it.

Sometimes you don’t need to change the world. You just need to change the way you look at the world

I’m not claiming to have all or any of the answers.  Nobody has all the answers.  Like everyone I’m working things out as I go, both on this page and in life generally.  It’s entirely possible that I will change my mind about things and contradict myself!  I am very open to discussion and I would love to hear your thoughts on anything I post.  Ultimately everyone has to work things out for themselves and exorcise their own demons but I hope to be able to give you some tools to help you along the way.

This won’t be for everyone but I hope you will find something here to either comfort and soothe or encourage and inspire you.  The world can be a wonderful place when we all contribute wonderful things.
